Tears of joy to hear this beautiful rendition! Soli Deo gloria! So grateful that this work of J. S. Bach is preserved and enjoyed in this way.

She is superb, talented and joyful, but the vibrato is more aligned with a 19th century opera. It practically borders on a trill. It's a very heavy, and modern, aesthetic. Unfortunately, musicians are educated that this "heavy vibrato on every note" is the only way to perform, and it's so pervasive that one could not attain this level of success without employing this method even though it is not historic. Every instrument except the trumpet is doing this excessive vibrato, which sounds rather odd and is not described in historical accounts of performances. Its affect ends up being rather "dolce," and rich, which is fine at times, particularly at cadences, but otherwise is like eating a hot fudge sundae with caramel and extra sugar. Excess. Additionally, the trumpet has inauthentic holes to adjust pitch to modern ears and modern sensibilities. We literally reinvent historic instruments because they're "not good enough," which just smacks of hubris. Furthermore, the mouthpiece is a modern one and not a historic copy, which changes the timbre considerably. That being said, this piece is already incredibly difficult even on a vented baroque trumpet, with a modern mouthpiece. The mellow tone matches a historic trumpet fairly well, and this performance is well done, surprisingly. Most impressive is his ability to play "quietly" so as to not overshadow the soprano, which is an astoundingly rare brass musician ability. Especially since he is primarily a modern trumpeter. Overall, it is a beautiful performance, but it is historically inauthentic in several respects. That being said, beggars can't be choosers and I'm grateful for all performances and renditions of historic music, even on fully modern instruments. Just don't pretend to be historic, is all. I don't mind that people love this performance, but everyone saying it is historic is completely wrong. You can just say it is pretty to you without pretending to know anything about historic performance. It's all hubris....

J. S Bach is by far the grandest most noble composer in human history.

In the 1970s there was an attempt at making a "Romantic Revival", with festivals of that name here and there. It was, unfortunately, short-lived, but its legacy was some decent recordings that were made of works that would have otherwise been left ignored. We're due for another un-earthing of so many wonderful pieces (not just piano concerti) that are constantly overlooked by orchestras, conductors, soloists, and chamber music players who insist on repeating the same repertoire over and over and over and over and over!

When you here that sound and see them smiling having fun, you know they are the tops, the best.

Maravillosa, me recuerda a mi madre, la soprano Isabel Penagos, cuando ensallaba en casa esta misma cantata, yo era un niño que aún no entendía bien este tipo de música que con el tiempo he sabido apreciar, hasta el punto de que se me pone la carne de gallina.
